Talisman Revised 4th Edition Miniature Painting Guide

PaintingTalismanMiniaturesHeader.jpg

Welcome to the Talisman Revised 4th Edition Miniature Painting Guide! This post is going to give you everything you need to know to paint your Talisman miniatures including color schemes, prep instructions and sealing instructions to make sure that your Talisman miniatures come out the way they appear on the card!

Since this is a mass post here we will be posting all color schemes for each character by set and in alphabetical order except for the base game which will be right up toward the top. If you are looking for a certain character to a control F or command F on this article and use the title of that character card and you will find instructions on what I did to paint the miniature. If your character is not on here yet that is either because I still have yet to paint them, or they are posted in our monthly newsletter that gets a 1 month early access to the color schemes for these miniatures.

Keep in mind we are using Vallejo paints for this guide. They are the most easy to use as a beginner painter and are at a decent price. So if you are wanting to pick up a set of Vallejo paints and Citadel washes. You can find couple big base sets that we used.

Finally be sure to wash your miniatures before painting to get off any mold release and trim up any mold lines that are not desired if you are so inclined.

We really only tend to use 2 washes for Citadel, but if you would like to experiment with other washes that they provide, comment below and let us know what worked for you! Additionally, you do NOT need to buy these colors as a single set! if you are painting specific miniatures we will link each of the colors that are used so you don’t need to buy any paints you don’t need as cost can always add up quickly!

If you want some basic practice and things to help you get started painting miniatures, you can check my article here on painting for beginners: https://www.dickwizardry.com/articles/painting-miniatures-as-a-beginner?rq=painting

With that being said lets dive right in!

Talisman Revised 4th Edition Base Game

Assassin

This character has a very limited color palette. I personally also didn’t like getting this character to black so I used some different shades of grey throughout the miniature.

Talisman Assasin

This miniature I used a lot of grey black and lightened it for some pants and trim on the clothing. I did no lightening of the black grey on the actual cloak which is where you should start painting this miniature. I know that above does not mention Nuln Oil but use that as a wash. Finally basic skin tone and natural metal for the weapons. do a very light dry brush of the white that is almost not noticeable but still there makes a big difference pulling out some features of the miniature after the wash.

Finally finish the miniature by basing and sealing.

Citadel Nuln Oil, Vallejo 70.861, 70.815, 70.951, 70.862, 70.864

Dwarf

The Dwarf has many colors to him. The sculpt also has some golden trim on the armor. This is a good time to have a much more pointed brush to take on the more detailed features.

Talisman Dwarf

I started with the natural metal armor, then proceeded to the red cape, and finally the yellow beard as the base coat. The arms followed with a basic skin tone color. after this I tackled the leather on the figure, the boots and the gloves. Once this was done I went over the dried armor and used a fine tip brush and tackled the golden trim of the armor. Once this was done, it was time to do some touch ups and some highlights. NOTE: the yellow beard will need to take multiple coats as it does not cover very well.

I went with a slightly brighter shade of red for the cape by mixing the white with ym existing red drop. I repeated the process for the yellow and the leather brown. Once this was complete I went over everything with Agrax Earthshade as a wash. I touched up the gold after the fact i some areas to make it pop as well as some of the red highlights of the cape with the dry brush technique. Finally. I dry brushed some white where I felt light would hit the miniature.

This miniature is a little more involved but turned out great. Here are the colors that I used.

Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.953, 70.815, 70.957, 70.817, 70.878, 70.864, 70.851, 70.871, 70.951

Druid

The Druid does not take many colors, however, the mixing to get the correct faint green blue takes a mix of intermediate green and blue. The dirty look that the character card provides can be accomplished with the Agrax earthshade alone.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.851, 70.861, 70961, 70.983, 70.953, 70.815, 70.891, 70.864

Elf

The Elf takes not many colors but are a cool pallet of green, yellow, white. This miniature does notrequire many mixing of colors and makes for a good miniature to pick to start. The mixing of the brown to get the right colors are the most difficult part to this miniature.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.851, 70.861, 70862, 70.860, 70.953, 70.968, 70.891, 70.983, 70.871, 70.953, 70.878

Ghoul

The Ghoul is one of the new miniatures that has features on the abes of the miniature, I choose to paint them similar to the paints used for the miniature itself. This miniature does take some mixing of green white and yellow to get the washed out green color of the Ghoul’s skin. The Agrax Earthshade again will take care of a lot of details for this miniature.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.951, 70.861, 70862, 70.953, 70.968, 70.891, 70.983, 70.871

Minstrel

The Minstrel requires a lot more base paint types than first imagined. First, getting the right pink for the clothing, and then the right purple for the vest. With the addition of the two shades of brown for the hair and the violin takes a full pallet of color.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.951, 70.861, 70.983, 70.871, 70.953, 70.957, 70.930, 70.844, 70.891, 70.815 (Not in Image)

Monk

The monk is a pretty easy miniature to paint. There is not much hard to reach areas and the base color is pretty much the same across the miniature. With that in mind, we are able to make this miniature pop with some of the other details.

Starting with the main robes use the flat brown color. Then take the leather and go over the ropes and the straps of the miniature. We use regular skin tone for the face, hands and feet. Take a mix of intermediate green and dark blue to get the bed roll color on the monk’s back. Finally use the natural metal to color the metal items like the spoon and talisman that the monk carries. The detail comes out with the agrax earthshade and additional dry brush highlights on the robes of the miniature.

Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.862, 70.864, 70.864, 70.983, 70.871, 70.891, 90.930, 70.951, 70.815

Sorceress

Then sorceress required some mixing on my part in order to get some purple and pink colors. Vallejo makes these colors, but since I do not use them often, I find mixing them myself really works best.

SorceressColorScheme.jpg

We start with this miniature mixing some red and some white until we get the pink we desire on the we pallet. Then we want to add back in some blue and red from the same color we just made to darken to a purplish pink color. We then base the miniature with these colors. We continue using grey black for the hair and a mixture of white and grey black to create the staff. I used used white for the skull and red scarlet for the skull weather ornament. Finally flesh tone for the skin. Dry brushing by lightening the colors that exist on your wet pallet is recommended after doing the Nuln Oil wash. Once this is complete we can a little more heavily handily dry brush white in the hair to match the grey hair in the card image and then very light over the rest of the miniature where light would hit.

Finally base and seal the miniature with your prefered sealer.

Citadel Nuln Oil, Vallejo 70.817, 70.951, 70.815, 70.957, 70.930, 90.961, 70.862

Thief

The thief is another basic miniature. The only difficulty with this one is to get the shirt right on the miniature. If you do not have a paint that matches the card, mixing to get the right color here proved a little difficult. Here is what I did.

Thief Color Scheme

I worked to get the color of the top shirt by mixing a flat yellow and a flat red. Once I got an orange, I brightened it slightly with the basic skin tone. I colored the fants with the base coat of flat hearth, I colored the boots and hair with leather brown, and I used the old gold on the jewelry that the thief has stolen. I finished the miniature by using a wash of Agrax Earthshade. I wanted him to appear dirty and this was the right choice here. Finally, I dry brushed white to pull out some extra detail on the miniature.

Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.801, 70.871, 70.951, 70.861, 70.957, 70.953, 70.815

Troll

The troll is an interesting miniature where getting the green seems harder than it actually is to match the character on the card. Here is what I did.

Talisman Troll Color Scheme

I started with a mix of the flat green, intermediate green, and a drop of the flat yellow to give it the warmer green on the card. When it comes to the trolls hair, I used just the flat green. The pants I used the flat earth with some white. some colors not in the image above was a flat red. I mixed that with the medium flesh tone and white to get that color of shirt. The wooden log for a club was using the flat earth and leather brown combined to get the wood color that I want. Wood always looks great once the drybrush is done. Next I mixed intermediate with the white and outlined the shirt to match the character card. I washed with Agrax earthshade and did a dry brush of each of the colors I used at a very light amount where I felt light would hit. Finally, I used the white and dry brushed once again even lighter over the entire miniature. Finish the base and seal the miniature and its ready to go.

Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.871, 70.983, 70.862, 70.857, 70.861, 70.951, 70.891, 70.968, 70.953, 70.860

Warrior

The Warrior is another miniature that has quite a few paints that I used. Like the Dwarf from earlier, I needed to use a fine tip to gold trim parts of the armor.

WarriorColorScheme.jpg

I started with the red cape using flat red. Then took care of the green cloak for his front. Once that was complete I used natural metal for the armor and basic skin tone for the skin. I also used flat brown for the miniatures hair and old gold for the armor highlights. Once things dried, I used the Agrax Earthshade to wash the miniature. Finally I added highlights using dry brushing techniques. I dry brushed terra brown on the hair to make locks of hair visible on the miniature, then over the armor I attempted to dry brush with the old gold which seemed to work much better than expected. I finished with a final drybrush of regular white. Do the white dry brush extremely sparingly.

Here the color scheme of paints you can pick up for this miniature.

Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.891, 70.915, 70.951, 70.957, 70.861, 70.864, 70.878, 70.871

Wizard

The Wizard is a really nice place to start. This is because there are not a whole lot of color variations and the model also allows easy practice for a staff gem glow effect. The colors used in this miniature are Vallejo Plain white, Glossy Black Terra Mate, Scarlata, Rojo Matte Basic Skin Tone, Intermedial green and verde oliva. Finally finish with a wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade to give a dirty appearance. it works well will the overall appearance of the miniature. links are at the end of miniature for paints.

Talisman Wizard

Start with the red tones or Rojo across most of the miniature. Then use the darker green on the staff. next paint the beard with white, finish with the details of terra mate on the bag and basic skin tone on the face and hands. Touch up anything missed and then move to a early dryprush of the wizards white parts of the robes.

Once this is complete talke the brighter red and mix with rojo highlight areas that light would hit on the miniature, additionally mix the intermediate to highlight the gem on the top of the staff. Finally, do some additional highlights by mixing a small amount of white into the green mixture for the gem and the red for the highlights of the robes. Apply smaller layers. on top of the existing highlights in a more conservative amount.

Next, cover the miniature in the wash of Agrax Earthshade. Once this dries, take the white and use the dry brushing technique to add the final lighting to the miniature. There should be virtually no white paint on the brush. when drybrushing. when doing white, white it on a non white surface like your hand until you see virtually no white come off the brush and then go over the miniature.

Next cover the base in the glossy black. Finally seal with a matte sealer that you can buy at your hobby store. If you want a more a more glossy finish use a gloss sealant.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Agarax Earthshade, Vallejo White 70.951, Glossy Black 70.861, Flat Earth 70.983, Flat Red 70.957, Scarlet 70.817, Intermediate Green 70.891, Flat Green 70.968, Basic Skin Tone 70.815

Here are links to the paints needed to complete this miniature:

Talisman Revised 4th Edition Cataclysm Expansion

Arcane Scion

The Arcane Scion, when painting this set, is the most difficult miniature due to the myriad of colors of his robes. I recommend that when painting this miniature that you also take the time to paint the Scavenger as that miniature is the other miniature of the set to have a rather varied color pallet.

There is not much of a base code for this miniature, but I would recommend base coating most of the miniature white to allow the colors to pop including the gold gauntlet that he wields. Once you have the base coat, it’s a matter of going over each spot of the miniature with the colors of the cloak and skin tones.

Talisman Arcane Scion Paints

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.891, 70.861, 70.981, 70.957, 70.860, 70.862, 70.871, 70.844, 70.930, 70.953, 70.983, 70.878

Barbarian

Talisman Cataclysm Barbarian

The Barbarian is the easiest miniature to paint in this set. He requires a skin tone paint, a grey black and a used metal for his weaponry. This miniature would benefit from a modest drybrush of a lighter grey than the black grey over top of the hair and clothing before detailing the leather straps and armor pads.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Nuln Oil, Vallejo 70.861, 70.864, 70.815, 70.862, 70.871

Black Knight

Talisman Cataclysm Black Knight

The Black Knight was difficult to start. Since Talisman Miniatures are not shipped in pieces, the back side of the cape is really hard to get to. That is why I recommend starting with a bright red base coat for the inside of the cape. Then, once complete, baes coat the rest of the miniature in a flat black. the details will come out of this miniature with a dark red and brown mix dry brushed onto the miniature, and then a worn metal silver dry brushed even lighter over the armor of the knight leading to a fantastic effect. In the end, this miniature turned out looking great while not taking a substantial effort.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Nuln Oil, Vallejo 70.861, 70.864, 70.983,70.957, 90.950

Mutant

The mutant was at first an intimidating character to paint, but after getting the base coat of a red mixed with browns and even a little blue, the mutant tentacles start to look fantastic. On top of that, using the same color scheme for all the other portions as the Spider Queen from the Woodlands Expansion means there are pretty minimal colors needed for this character.

Talisman Cataclysm Mutant

Dry brushing the tentacle suction cups will really make this miniature pop with a brown/white, and red mix.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.864, 70.957, 70.860, 70.862, 70.871, 70.844, 70.951

Scavenger

Talisman Cataclysm Scavenger

The Scavenger is a relatively more complicated miniature to paint, due to the wide variety of colors that are on the pack of the scavenger character it will take several different paints. However, the main colors here are different shades of brown so it makes sense to base coat the pig with a very light brown, and the pack with a light brown. then returning to complete the rest of the miniature’s colors and ropes with darker browns and the different reds and greens.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.891, 70.861, 70.864, 70.957, 70.860, 70.862, 70.871, 70.844, 70.951, 70.953, 70.815

Talisman Revised 4th Edition City Expansion

Bounty Hunter

Talisman City Bounty Hunter

The Bounty Hunter miniature uses grey black, Natural Steel and a little browns for the leather and wood effects. You can also use the brown for the net however, in this miniature I decided to paint the net in the same natural metal as I liked the look of it. This miniature is an otherwise easy paint.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.862, 70.871, 70.983, 70.864, 70.915

Cat Burglar

Talisman City Cat Burglar

Cat Burglar is a more difficult miniature then it at first seems. Because the miniature is got some many dark shades of blue and then a very bright spot in the green gem.I started with the dark blue and then dry brushed the sky blue very lightly. Then I went over the miniature and took care of the metal with the natural steel.

For the gem, I started at a point where the miniature was primed white so I added the green in a drybrush.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.950, 70.930, 70.844, 70.983, 70.864, 70.891

Elementalist

Talisman City Elementalist

The Elementalist is the most challenging miniature in the city expansion for Talisman. Not only do you need to create the fire effect, but also a water effect as well.

I went through the same process but used opposite ends of the spectrum of colors for each element effect. Starting with white, then adding in the yellow, orange and red or increasingly darker versions of blue with light er and lighter dry brushes. If you have access to more intense gamer paints I would recommend deeper pigments for these effects for the fire specifically.

The chest piece was a mix of flat brown and flat red and dry brushed over the top with a brass.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.850, 70.953, 70.857, 70.930, 70.844, 70.891, 70.801 (Not in Image Brass), 70.951, 70.801, 70.983

Spy

The spy is another really easy miniature to paint. It also gives us time to practice mixing some colors. There is a hue in the coat that is not necessary brown red or blue, so mixing them to get the color or the card is necessary unless you find the perfect mixture online and don’t want to try mixing for yourself. I went with a mixture of browns dark blue and flat red to get the desired effect. One thing that I would recommend is that on the dry brush after the Agrax Earthshade wash, is to use the flat earth as the drybrush highlight as the white seemed to be a little to strong on the miniature to my taste. Finish with a sealer after basing with a flat or glossy black paint.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.862, 70.871, 70.983, 70.864, 70.915

Tavern Maid

Talisman City Tavern Maid

Tavern Maid was a fun miniature to paint, and this miniature tends to see a lot of play at my Talisman table as it’s a great greif giver to other players. The rich red robe with leather brown aprons are fun to paint, and since the red is already out and yellow is out to add some color to the rest of the sleeves, you can mix them when done for the hair.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.950, 70.815 (Not in Image skin tone), 70.953, 70.957, 70.930, 70.851, 70.983

Tinkerer

Talisman City Tinkerer

The Tinkerer does not take a large pallet, there are several tools on the miniature that I choose to include Natural Steel such as the wrench. Also, I used brass for the magnifying glass on his eye. The miniature is actually a little more difficult due to it being smaller than most other miniatures in Talisman.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.951, 70.815 (Not in Image skin tone), 70.871, 70.983, 70.801, 70.864

Talisman Revised 4th Edition Dungeon Expansion

Amazon

Talisman Dungeon Barbarian

The Amazon is a simple miniature to make, however I chose to work with more browns for the character instead of the warmer orange for the scant amount of clothing on this miniature. I may repaint this miniature with a flat red, flat yellow and flat brown mix to get the color closer to the character sheet.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.864, 70983, 70.815, 70.871, 70.951

Gladiator

Talisman Gladiator

The Gladiator is an easy miniature to paint that requires just a few colors in an easy to reach area to paint. I choose to use the old gold, but mixed it with yellow to get closer to what the character card presented. The Agrax Earthshade does a lot of work for this miniature getting the details of the muscles to pop.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.953, 70878, 70.815, 70.871, 70.951

Talisman Revised 4th Edition Firelands Expansion

Dervish

Talisman Firelands Dervish

The Dervish is a fun miniature to paint, Infact, this set is a really easy set to paint in general due to many overlapping colors across the miniatures. With this miniature we are using rich reds and in areas where there are flames on the miniature we are starting with a red-orange mix and working our way up through the colors to yellow, and finally adding white to the center. since the flames are small we can get away starting with the darker color and moving up to colors that have more difficulty covering.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.861, 70.862, 70.815, 70.983, 70.801, 70.953, 70.957, 70.817, 70.864

Jin Blooded

Jin Blooded is another fun miniature to paint, this miniature gives us a variety of green blue and oranges. there is also a blue portion to the headpiece that I decided against doing myself. I recommend using the brass metallic from Vallejo over the gold for this miniature as it gives the character a warmth that I feel really fits the firelands set.

Talisman Firelands Jin Blooded

Nomad

Talisman Firelands Nomad

The Nomad has a pretty limited color pallet, but this is a fantastic miniature to work on your dry brushing with. getting the textures in the cloak and the hair are really easy because of the sculpt of the miniature. I choose to use brass over gold again as in this set, the brass from Vallejo really makes the miniature feel warmer.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.860, 70.801, 70.861, 70.891, 70.862, 70.871

Warlord

The Warlord has a really cool red and blue cape, but the more complicated work was to get the brass to have a orange hue to it, mixing a good amount of medium flesh tone flat red with the brass will achieve this color. I really enjoyed painting this miniature, it’s a pretty easy model to paint for beginners.

Alchemist

The Alchemist miniature I was really looking forward to paint and we arrive at a lesson. Make sure that when dry brushing with a white to not overdo the coat. In addition to that, when sealing a miniature, be sure to do a gloss finish and if you want a more matte finish utilize a small amount of a matte finish after applying the gloss. What happened with this miniature was to much dry brushing as well as matte sealer without a gloss first coat.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.871, 70.861, 70.891, 70.860, 70.957, 70.951, 70.953, 70.878

Highlander

The Highlander is a fun miniature to paint, the red hair contrast with the green kilt and the white shirt work really well. The paint scheme is still really easy for this miniature and makes it a good early miniature to paint for beginners.

Talisman Highlands Highlander

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.871, 70.861, 70.891, 70.860, 70.957, 70.953, 70.951, 70.864

Rogue

The Rogue miniature is pretty easy to paint, the only area that needs work is getting the right tint to the shirt. used a combination of blue red black and a little brown to get the color I was looking for. I also used leather brown for the hair and brightened it up with flat brown.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Nuln Oil, Vallejo 70.950, 70.861, 70.801, 70.930, 70.957, 70.871, 70.951, 70.983, 70.864

Sprite

The sprite is a smaller miniature to paint, and getting the purple color tone of the underside of the skirt was a little challenging so I used a sky blue with a flat red and kept adding sky blue till I was where I needed to be, I also mixed some sky blue with intermediate green to get the lighter green top. For the wings, I mixed white and a small amount of yellow and allowed for the wash to do the rest.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo 70.801, 70.861, 70,891, 70.860, 70.961, 70.957, 70.951, 70.953

Valkyrie

The valkyrie was done at the same time that I did the Warlord from the Firelands expansion set. this miniature shared similar colors such as a deep blue, and the orange brass color. Unfortunately the tip of my miniature’s spear snapped before it’s gotten a chance to be played at the table.

Vampiress

This miniature had the smallest color pallet from all the miniatures from the Highlands expansion, again this was a miniature that I ran into an issue with my matte sealer which made this miniature to washed out. I may repaint this miniature to get it closer to where it’s supposed to be with it’s colors but below are the colors needed for this miniature.

Talisman Revised 4th Edition Reaper Expansion

The Talisman Reaper expansions is one of my personal favorites and a favorite to the community as well. check out our review on this expansion!

Dark Cultist

The Dark Cultist takes a series of different colors from green to red. This miniature relates back to the Wizard character to me but ads in the darker tones to the main miniature figure. Also, we are using Nuln oil to give the miniature a darker feel to it.

The paints scheme used for this miniature: Citadel Shade Nuln Oil, Vallejo 70.861, 70.862, 70.815, 70.930, 70.957, 70.891, 70.801

Knight

The knight was one of the earlier miniatures that I painted and so for that reason, I was not willing to do some more of the more intensive designs on the clock. If you have a good fine pointed brush, I would say go for it, but the miniature sculpts that I own do not have the grooves where the icons on the cloak would actually be.

Talisman Knight

For this set, starting with the flat red, and the doing the armor with natural meta. There are some parts of the miniature that are not as light in metal color as others so I mixed some black grey into the mix of metal to go over a second time and get a slightly darker color. It was pretty straight forward. I then went over the flesh with my flesh tone that matches the card art. It was then time to go over everything with Agrax Earthshade to wash the miniature. This could have been Nuln oil if you wanted a darker miniature, but I wanted mine to look a little more dirty than dark. Finishing things off, hitting up light points for the miniature with the same paints after the wash creates that lighting effect that I really like. The last couple steps is going over with a dry brush of white to pull out more detail on the miniature since this one is pretty boring. Base the miniature and seal with your sealant of choice.

Merchant

The merchant has a nice color of cloak and fun that I wanted to be sure to capture the best I can.

Talisman Merchant

I started with mixing the base coat of the coat which was a very small amount of dark blue with the mostly flat red. The same dark blue was used with the grey black for the dark fur on the miniatures coat. I used yellow for the feather on the cap and basic skin tone for the pace and hands. I used leather brown for money bag on the belt and shoes. I used brass color for this miniatures golden features to keep him feeling warm, but would recommend going old gold on the miniature If I was to do it again. This miniature received Agrax Earthshade as a wash. The highlights of the miniature were all white with touch ups using old gold on the golden features after the wash.

Reaper

The Reaper miniature is a pretty easy miniature to paint, it requires very little colors and allows for easy use of the Nuln Oil wash to get a really dark effect.

Start by painting the majority of the miniature black. It wouldn’t hut anything if the entire miniature was painted matte black. Next paint the natural steel color onto the scythe. Then paint the white onto the face of the grim reaper and his hands. Touch up any areas that were mistakes. Now Once dry, cover the miniature with a healthy dose of the Nuln Oil. dab off to desired effect. Be sure to get the scythe as well as this makes the metal look aged. Once complete use the white and dry brush over the miniature very lightly with next to no white paint on the brush for highlights.

Finish the miniature with a flat or glossy black base and finish with a sealant spray. This is a good miniature to practice on when starting to paint your collection since there is not much that can go wrong on it with the minimal color scheme and overall dark appearance.

Sage

The Sage takes some mixing of a light blue, white, and flat red to get the correct purple hue to his robes. I would just use the wash to give detail to the bead using a white base and it will come out great.

Talisman Revised 4th Edition Woodlands Expansion

Ancient Oak

Talisman woodlands Ancient Oak

This miniature was really fun to paint, start with a base coat of leather brown, then apply the flat brown as a drybrush to the entire miniature. Next, paint the green into the leaf areas of the miniature, I also did a mix of green with the flat brown and did yet another drybrush of the entire miniature.

There is also a squirrel on the shoulder that needs to be orange, so I took a flat red and flat yellow and got my orange for that small detail which really pops on the miniature.

Leywalker

They Laywalker allows for us to do some pretty cool wood effects on a full scale. This will be useful and easy to repeat with another miniature in this set.

What I did here was take the leather and mix it with the flat brown tone. I then painted over the entire miniature. Then with a seperate blot of leather brown since not much is needed went over the cloth on the miniature. Cover the miniature with Agrax Earthshade and dry brush the white very lightly and this will give a perfect wood appearance for the miniature. Base the miniature and seal and it’s ready to play.

Scout

The Scout is a fun miniature to paint with the amount of variance to green and browns that the miniature uses. Start with the inside of the miniature painted flat brown and add the leather brown to the darker areas as well as the flat green for the sleeves and legs. on the outside, I started with flat green and highlighted up to intermediate green.

Spider Queen

The Spider Queen ended up being a really fun miniature to paint, especially since the spiders crawling around her are red so it really contrasts on the black and white of her flesh.

Start with the black across most of this miniature. When it comes to painting a miniature black, I prefer the black grey color as it feels like a more realistic black for the miniature and looked amazing on the reaper miniature from the reaper expansion. Now we will take a mixture of the flat red and scarlett and go over the red spot and wherever there might be a spider on the miniature, look closely, there are several. Next we paint the skin tone, we can go base white here as the wash will make it look close to the miniatures card image. Wash the miniature with the Nuln Oil. Finally we will highlight with the red and scarlett mixture that we made on the main red spot of the miniature and finish with a light dry brush over the miniature that will accentuate the cloths of the miniature. Base and seal the miniature and it’s ready to play.

Totem Warrior

Talisman Woodlands Totem Warrior

The Totem Warrior takes several shades of brown and ends come coming across as a really nice looking miniature without much effort. This is another miniature that due to the fun on his bear skin is a great miniature to practice your dry brushing techniques to get the fun to pop.

Finally the wash is what will really warm this character up to get it closer to that character sheet image.
