Westworld Season 3 Episode 2 Review

Westworld Season 3 Episode 2 Review Header

Westworld Season 3 Episode 2 takes us back to the park of Westworld and introduces us to a new park called War World. The episode takes us on a ride with classic Westworld mystery about what is real and what is pre designed story.

Maeve portrayed by Thandie Newton wakes up in War World which is a world war 2 themed park. She experiences a similar storyline that is being played out. Once she realizes what is going on she loses hope that anything with change and kills herself to get back to the maintenance area of the park.

She discovers that Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) survived. But at the same time notices that things feel off about the entire situation. Weird questions are being asked, people are behaving off. This eventually leads to her figuring out that she is in a simulation.

The rest of the episode for her arc for the episode is escaping the simulation by putting to much load on whatever is processing the system. She finds her mind in the real world and attempts to hack a machine to take her core and get out of wherever the location is but fails in the process.

She wakes up finding herself in the house of Serac who not only has a plan for Maeve; to stop a war that he claims has already started, but is also able to control Maeve with voice commands.

In another location in the park, Bernard (Jeffery Wright) finds Ashley Stubbs (Liam Hemsworth) ho has blown his brains out in the wet world park. Stubbs is still alive because he to is a host. He gets fixed up by Bernard and they go looking for Maeve as Bernard needs her help to stop Dolores. This is when they make the discovery that her core is gone.

Bernard then works to get is tablet to make sure that Dolores is not hiding anything from his programming with a corrupt tablet. Subbs and Bernard then go back to the beaches and get on the boat to leave westworld and return to the real world.

One thing that this episode showed me was that the simulation theory is going to play a bigger role. I stated this in the last review. We get tricked along with Maeve of the reality of what we are watching, but once it becomes clear that it’s a simulation, the classic simulation bars on the screen come back to symbolize that they are not in the real world.

It appears that the main arc of the story is for Serac to regain control of the world for the Incite company as he does not have the system cannot account for he anomalies of what the hosts are doing.

I think we are going to get a epic violent end to the season as the episodes progress. We will be getting to see much more of Dolores in the upcoming episodes as well as her control over Delos from the top.

Overall the acting was well done, the visuals were good as well.  I was disappointed to see the Game of Thrones directors in this episode. It reminds me of how Game of Thrones was so popular that they had to introduce singers and other actors into episodes “Because they can”. Hopefully this will not be a reoccurring thing, especially since this instance was with some unlikeable directors in the fantasy community.

The overall course for the season has not really shifted in any way. It looks like we will get an all out battle at the end of the season involving Incite and the hosts.
