Surprise! Warner Brothers is not waiting around for the reception of season 1 of The Harry Potter series that is slated for December 2026 to get to work on season 2.

According to Wizarding World Direct the second season has started filming and will be covering the second book in the series “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”

The second season was greenlit by Warner Brothers back in May of 2026, so Warner Brothers is wasting no time getting the next season underway. Because of this we can expect a quick turnaround from season to season of the show.

Not much is known about the second season except that a specific character Ginny Weasley who will was played by Gracie Cochrane will not be the same actor in season 2. In chamber of the secrets, Ginny plays a much larger role as it’s also her first year at Hogwarts.

I am sure that season 1 of the Harry Potter series will get strong viewership just for the name of the IP alone, but it seems risky to start filming the second season and piecing it together without having any idea how the first season will even be received.

I am also aware that due to the age of these characters, it’s important to be time sensitive if the studio wants to keep the same cast through the whole series which was a challenge even when the movies were released.

Based on the timeline as there has not been any official time window, we could anticipate that winter 2027 or 2028 would be the release window for season 2 of Harry Potter.

It’s also safe to say that season 3 of Harry Potter will likely cover The Prisoner of Askaban. If that is the case we are likely to see 1 season per book with the potential based on success for the end books to split into multiple seasons just like the last film did for the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter Season 1 is slated to release on Christmas December 25th 2026 on HBO Max. Be sure to check back here for more news regarding the Harry Potter series as we learn more!
